Wet the surface to be cleaned, and then apply a small amount of the BKF product to the
surface. With a damp cloth or rag, apply an appropriate amount of pressure and clean the
area. Make sure to rinse the surface thoroughly after. Please consult either the package or

manufacturer care section if available for proper cleaning procedures.
This is regarding Australia’s formula which active ingredient is citric acid (not oxalic). On
metals, it is recommended not to be left on more than a minute at a tie, but testing in a
discreet area is advised. Adjust the amount of BKF for strength.
For other surfaces, longer than one minute may be necessary, but testing is also
recommended.
It is not advised to use on the face or cosmetic areas of consumer appliances. Many
manufacturers apply a clear protective layer to help reduce fingerprints. The abrasive in BKF
may harm this protective layer. Additionally, improper application may disturb the factory
brushed appearance of some stainless (including commercial grade) appliances. Please
consult the care section of manufacturer’s manual for proper cleaning procedures.
BKF is not harmful to the skin during casual use. However, sensitive skin or pro-longed use
may benefit from using gloves. The citric acid in BKF is mild, but it may irritate sensitive skin
and will sting in any open wound (similar to lemon juice on a cut).
Bar Keepers Friend is an acidic cleaner, unlike most other powdered cleansers that are
alkaline (bleach-based). Acidic cleaners are more effective against mineral deposits and rust
stains. Additionally, most stainless-steel product manufacturers recommend acidic cleaners
over bleach-based ones.
The active ingredients in BKF do not expire. However, storage in a humid environment will
cause the powder to solidify, try and keep open containers of BKF in a dry environment.
The contents of BKF do not expire or degrade when stored in a dry environment. To offer
customers the best value possible, BKF manufacturers choose not to add an expensive lid
when it is not required for most users. A helpful tip for those who may want to cover their
can of BKF if stored under the sink or in a humid environment is to cover the top of the can
with a sandwich bag (a rubber band can be used to make an air-tight seal if necessary).
BKF does not contain chlorine or any caustic ingredients.
